Innocent woman served 35 years in prison and became a multi-millionaire
A resident of the United States mistakenly served 35 years in prison and received millionth compensation.
In 1980, 29-year-old Katie Woods was sentenced to 35 years in prison. She was suspected of killing a 19-year-old student. The crime was committed in 1976.
Soon, the court quashed the sentence, but the woman was sentenced again. The Daily Mail informs about the incident.
Four years ago, a cigarette butt found at a crime scene passed a DNA examination. It turned out that the woman had nothing to do with this crime.
The killer turned out to be a man. Last year he was sentenced to life imprisonment. On August 27, it was decided to pay the woman monetary compensation for the mistake.
Now she will receive three million dollars.
