A prospective global-range cruise missile “Petrel” with a small-sized nuclear power plant is a “retaliation weapon”.
This is reported by Russian media, citing an interview with “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” by the military expert of the magazine “Arsenal of the Fatherland” Alexei Leonkov.
According to the specialist, “Burevestnik” ultimately completes “the complete defeat of all the military and civilian infrastructure of the enemy country, there is no chance of survival”, with the result that the aggressor country “will remain in the Stone Age”.
A military expert in his interview reports that the Burevestnik miniature nuclear power plant was created taking into account Soviet experience and the development of a nuclear aircraft engine.
Alexey Leonkov notes that the “Petrel”, which is capable of moving at a subsonic speed, cannot be threatened by anti-aircraft and anti-missile defenses.
The enemy’s air defense and missile defense systems will be completely destroyed by ICBMs. The expert stresses that the air situation monitoring complexes in the enemy's ionized atmosphere will not be able to see the radioactive exhaust of Russian weapons.
Russian experts also say that the Russian “weapon of retaliation”, which can be used in the event of an enemy attack, after working out its territory with ICBMs, can also be attributed to the Poseidon nuclear submarine drone.
Recall that in February of this year one of the Russian military experts noted that the feature of the “Petrel” flight, which will distinguish this “weapon of retaliation” from other nuclear weapons, will be the “inevitable radioactive exhaust”.
